Referrals and Admissions Information

How to make a referral

Across our centres, we have places for up to 216 pupils. Our pupils are mixed and aged from 5 to 16.

Referrals can be made for:
  • Permanent Exclusions.
  • Match Funded Partnership: where criteria are met and GCC are funding 50% of the placement (up to 18 weeks).
  • Externally Funded Partnership: where schools or other local authorities are requesting a School place that they fully fund.
  • Externally Funded Outreach: where schools are applying to use and fully fund our Outreach and Partnership services.

Permanent Exclusions

This process should be used by schools who have taken the decision to permanently exclude a pupil residing in Gloucestershire. Once the referring professional has submitted the form, the schools Headteacher will be emailed to confirm that they are aware of and authorise the decision. The referral will only be processed once the mainstream Headteacher's authorisation has been received.  Please see the relevant JADU guide below to support with the completion and submission of the referral.

Where certain criteria are met, GCC will fund 50% of an Outreach or Altus centre placement aimed at preventing a permanent exclusion. This process should be used by Gloucestershire schools who, after discussion with the Altus team, would like to apply for a short-term (up to 18 weeks) placement that will be jointly funded by the mainstream school and Gloucestershire County Council (The referral will only be accepted if it meets relevant criteria, has been agreed following a conversation with the Altus team and once the mainstream Headteacher's authorisation has been received.  Please see the relevant JADU guide below to support with completion and submission of the referral.

Due to high demand for permanent exclusion placements, no match funded partnership places are currently available.

This process should be used by schools, Local Authorities, or other professionals who would like to apply for a placement in an Altus centre, which will be funded wholly by that organisation/service. The referral will only be accepted when it has been agreed following a conversation with the Altus team and once authorisation from the Headteacher or organisation's Service Manager has been received. Please see the relevant JADU guide to support with completion and submission of the referral.

Externally Funded Outreach

The Altus School prides itself on being a valuable source of expertise and support to schools across Gloucestershire. The sole focus of our Partnership and Outreach service is to reduce permanent exclusions and help students thrive in their mainstream setting. Details of the courses, interventions and services offered can be found on the Outreach and Partnerships page. This process should be followed by schools, local Authorities or other Professionals who would like to apply for Outreach provision wholly funded by that organisation/service. The referral will only be accepted if it has been agreed following a conversation with the Altus team and once the mainstream Headteacher/organisation's Service Manager's authorisation has been received. Please use the form below and return it to the email address on the form.
